Now, all pretense of such a possibility is broken, for the ZeuDeulers and their Rat have thrown it away in pursuit of wealth and power. Espousing that the will of the current Hieron and the Almighty Myriad supersedes the will of any secular authority, the Scazzelari siphon aid from the faithful of the Myriad across borders, ready to assert the independence of Carettia and ensure it’s future, whether such a future is within the Shining Empire or outside of it.

Officially, the Scazzelari are those who believe that the Emperor’s attempts to supersede the authority of the Hieronate represent a betrayal of the will of the Seven, and maintain that the seizure of Cuomo was performed under the conditions of the Argentine Arraignment rather than any war declared by the Empire- thus, the conquest of the city was legitimate and in violation of no authority. They maintain that the taking of the city was independent action by Carettic duchies, of which falls in line with the Myriadic concept of Holy War, and supersedes the demands of secular rulers, whatever they may be. Enjoying the support of the marcher lords, independent traders, escaped Drow slaves and the bishoprics and other religious authorities within Carettia, their ultimate goal remains to stifle the ambitions of the Regent and either wait for or bring about his death so sane rulership can be returned to the Shining Empire- or, failing this, secession from the Empire as a whole.

Possessing a sizable collection of early standing armies and years of experience fighting against the Drow, the Scazzelari advantage at sea is nonetheless stifled by continued Drow raiding, and their hilly and forested terrain outputs little food for the war-weary populace.
